Alter3rd happened after a series of weekend jam sessions in Muscat, involving Soumya, Sayan Ganguly, who had relocated to Muscat, Soumya's sons Aritra and Ahon and occassionally, Rajat Sarkar. Sayan, an established piano/ keyboard player and a brilliant sound designer/ programmer (and the son of Buddhadeb Ganguly, one of the most famous guitar players from Kolkata), was in Oman for a short period, during which, a strong bond developed which gave direction to a number of collaborations subsequently.

Alter3rd produced a number of originals and performed live in a few occassions in Muscat.
